Day at the Dickson-Murst Farm
“Like a trip to Grandma’s Farm” is how Dickson-Murst Farm Partner Kristy Gravlin describes the annual Dickson-Murst Day at the Farm, planned this year for Sunday, August 20th from 9 AM to 4 PM.

Activities at this family-friendly event include:
  • Farm animals to pet
  • Kiddie Tractor Pull
  • Corn “Sandbox” and Children's Play Area
  • Farm Machinery and Threshing Demonstrations
  • Live Bluegrass Music
  • Antique Tractors and Cars on Display
  • Hayrides
  • Concessions in the Country Kitchen
  • Rain Barrels for Sale
  • Free Admission and Parking

Day at the Farm started eight years ago as an Antique Tractor show, and this year it will be kicked off with a convoy of tractors driven from the Plainfield area.  Danny Raddatz, organizer of the tractor convoy reports “Last year 17 tractors traveled to the farm and I hope a few more friends will come along this year.”

Demonstrations of old farm implements, like the corn shellers and cob grinder that will be next to the crib, show the labor intensive operations that sent grain to market in the middle of the 20th Century. A line of random fire engines will run with their unique rhythms showing how they powered tasks before electricity was installed on the farm.  Always a favorite feature of Day at the Farm is the 1913 steam-engine that powers a 1908 wheat separator (threshing machine).
      .
The Conservation Foundation will also be on hand selling rain barrels and sharing information on water conservation and their efforts to preserve open-spaces in our community.

There’s always good, affordable food available at the Country Kitchen.  Funds from the Kitchen and donations support the maintenance of this beautiful farmstead - so come hungry.   As always take the opportunity to sit back in one of the Farm’s red rockers and spend the afternoon listening to some terrific music from the members of the Northern Illinois Bluegrass Association as they entertain under the trees and in the barns.

Day at the Farm is a relaxing, FREE event, focused on farms and family.  Activities begin at 9 AM and last until 4 PM.   Dickson-Murst Farm is at 2550 Dickson Rd on the west side of Montgomery.  It is one mile east of Rt. 47, 2 miles west of Orchard Rd, between Rt. 30 and Galena Rd.   For information about any of our events or directions, call 630-272-0686.

We would like to thank Allied First Bank of Oswego, our Premier Event Sponsor for the 2017 Dickson-Murst Farm events.
The Dickson-Murst Farm is the owned by The Conservation Foundation.  The amazingly energetic Dickson-Murst Farm Partners, who organize and present this and other family events at the farm, are a volunteer group of The Conservation Foundation with the mission of preserving the farm's historic buildings.

The Partners have repainted and repaired the foundations of most of the smaller buildings in the farmstead.  The next major project is re-enforcing portions of the main barn.  This building was originally raised in the early 1900’s and had several remodeling’s.  Each adaption shows a trend in agriculture for that era.
