Conservation@Work: Darien’s Garden View Park

Our friends at Darien Park District have created a beautiful new amenity for the community in Garden View Park, including a water feature for kids, picture tables, a covered picnic pavilion, and raised beds for growing vegetables. The Darien Garden Club has partnered with the Park District on plantings for the garden, and their members often lend a helping hand with weeding at this and other Park District sites. In planning the landscaping for this new park, the Darien Garden Club reached out to The Conservation Foundation to choose native plants for the areas around the new Garden View Park signs as a way to beautify the new space and educate visitors on the aesthetic and ecological benefits of landscaping using native plants. Our Conservation@Work staff created the design, the Darien Park District purchased the plants using grant funds, and the Darien Garden Club members, including Cathy Streett and Char Vuillaume, who are also members of The Conservation Foundation, planted the beds. This is an amazing example of organizations partnering together to provide a welcoming, informative space for Darien residents and visitors to enjoy.

If your organization has ideas for partnering with The Conservation Foundation, we’re always happy to hear from you!  Please contact [email protected].
