Are you concerned about the health of our local rivers and streams? Winter Chloride Watchers invites you to be part of a new program dedicated to protecting our waterways. Local rivers and streams are becoming increasingly salty primarily due to winter road salt. Chlorides—a main component of road salt—are a growing threat to water quality, vegetation, and infrastructure.
As a Winter Chloride Watcher volunteer, you’ll take water samples at a local stream or pond once a month from November to May. Your data will help us understand the impact of chlorides on aquatic life and how Salt Smart practices can make a difference. To participate in the program, first sign up for a training session to learn how take water samples and submit your data.
