The Paul Pierotti Scholarship Fund was established in 2006 by Forest Preserve District of DuPage County then – President D. “Dewey Pierotti, Jr. and his wife Leslie in memory of their late son Paul, who had a great love of the outdoors, to help local students pursuing college majors and careers in the environmental fields. Applicants wishing to be considered for this scholarship must be from DuPage, Kane, Kendall or Will Counties and must be a volunteer of or associated with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County or The Conservation Foundation.
Congratulations to the following three students who were chosen as the 2022 recipients of the Pierotti Scholarship:
Isabella Pellicano, Lisle
Isabella Pellicano graduated from Lisle High School and attends the University of Georgia to study biology and Spanish with hopes of a career bringing nature and people together. Her time in the DuPage Forest Preserves has inspired her to pursue this career and she plans to continue ecological volunteering through college and beyond.
Shiven Shah, Hinsdale
Shiven Shah graduated from Hinsdale Central with summa cum laude honors. He participated in varsity soccer, band, investment club, and math team. Outside of school, he was a math tutor and data analyst for ecological research at the Morton Arboretum. Shiven studies Economics and Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences at Northwestern University.
Jacob Sanders, Wheaton
Jacob Sanders graduated from Wheaton North and attends the University of Iowa. He studies environmental engineering with an emphasis on water and renewable energy. He wants to devote his time to making sure that we are using water as efficiently as possible. Jacob was involved in Boy Scouts, earning the Eagle Scout award.
“This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Paul,” said Mr. Pierotti. “He had a great love of the outdoors, especially for the forest preserves of DuPage County. This scholarship will enable deserving students with similar interests to pursue an education related to nature.”
