Yorkville’s Police Station’s garden in bloom
We’d like to highlight one of The Conservation Foundation’s newest Conservation In Our Community partners, the United City of Yorkville. By officially signing on to the Conservation In Our Community program, the City of Yorkville has demonstrated their commitment to continuing to expand and promote native plantings throughout Yorkville, and is financially supporting The Conservation Foundation’s initiatives in their town as well. The goal of Conservation In Our Community partnerships like this one is to increase community-based conservation initiatives and engage more deeply in the community.
The Conservation Foundation provides technical assistance to the City pertaining to native plants, green infrastructure, stormwater management best practices, and other conservation-related special projects, and provides education to local Homeowners Associations and resources to residents and businesses through Conservation@Home and Conservation@Work. Over the past couple of years, we have assisted with the design, installation, and maintenance of a native garden around their City Hall and Police Station building and are currently developing signage and public outreach to celebrate this Conservation@Work-certified garden as a demonstration site and example to the public.
