If you’ve spent any time perusing the “Latest News & Articles” section of our website, you’ve seen the name Steve Stawarz quite frequently over the last few years, attached to some incredibly informative and thought-provoking entries (and if you haven’t spent any time there, we highly suggest you do!). We want to sincerely thank Steve, a member and volunteer on our DuPage County Advisory Council, for providing 50 total articles/blogs for us to share with you!
Steve first became involved with The Conservation Foundation back in 2018, when he worked with us on the Oak Brook Park District open space referendum. He got to know Brook and some other staff members, liked what we were doing and how we were doing it, and, as he said, “one thing led to another.” A few years ago, Brook suggested that Steve consider writing a blog series to satisfy his curiosity and desire to dive deeper with his conservation research. Steve found he enjoyed the research and writing, and here we are 50 blogs later!
“Steve’s contributions have provided some thought-provoking ideas and helped us better understand how technology can be a useful tool to improve our environment,” said Brook. “We appreciate him providing good content for our members to read.”
When asked why he has chosen to share his time and writing talents with The Conservation Foundation, he said, “I believe in The Conservation Foundation’s mission to improve the health of our communities. Though its efforts in land and water conservation, providing healthy food, and promoting the benefits of nature (think NatureRx), The Conservation Foundation gives me opportunities to make a positive contribution to society.”
You have absolutely done that, Steve, and we are so appreciative (and a lot smarter) thanks to your hard work. After reaching the milestone of 50 articles, Steve is now turning his focus to his work with the Oak Brook Public Library Commission, volunteer work for the People’s Resource Center and the Elmhurst Art Museum, and his role on the advisory council of a startup IT company. In his spare time, Steve loves taking walks in nature with his wife and family to keep him physically and psychologically healthy.
Thank you, Steve!!
